The Hunter and Shiraz share a natural affinity. Along with Semillon it defines the region and has created some of Australia’s most age-worthy wines. The Scarborough Wine Co also shares this common bond with Shiraz and craft two that reflect the site and the region.
A contemporary style of Hunter Shiraz, riper and reflecting the finishing conditions of the 2023 vintage. This Shiraz is sourced from an adjoining vineyard to our Hermitage Road property. The Shiraz block is lightly cropped with mature vines and yields approximately one tonne per acre. The black clay loam soil retains moisture effectively while remaining free-draining.
Comprised of 95% Shiraz and 5% Tempranillo. The Tempranillo is sourced from our Hermitage Road property, which is adjacent to the Shiraz vineyard. The addition of Tempranillo adds a juicy complexity and draws the Shiraz fruit through. The Shiraz and Tempranillo were co-fermented, pressed out and transferred to a two year old puncheon to ensure the fruit nuances were maintained.
Comprised of 97% Shiraz and 3% Viognier. A nod to the Rhône Valley, incorporating a touch of Viognier from our Hermitage Road property to create a perfumed Hunter Shiraz. The Shiraz and Viognier were co-fermented then pressed out and transferred to a one year old puncheon to ensure the fruit nuances were maintained.
