Gillards Road was not handed to us as a vineyard that produced Chardonnay. It took plenty of love and attention and a fair bit of bulldozing to make it into the special patch of dirt it is today.
Originally our Gillards property was planted with Cabernet and Shiraz but these plantings were pulled out and replaced with Chardonnay and made way for our unwavering vision to create a vineyard to produce exceptional regional depictions of the variety. It was chosen by Scarbie specifically for its soil type, free draining red clay over limestone.
The red clay helps impart a richness into our Chardonnay making for a more opulent style.
In this video our Winemaker Jerome tells us all about the soils at our Gillards Road property.
