Ian Scarborough - Winemaker
Ian Scarborough graduated from Roseworthy College in 1969 with a Diploma of Oenology. On graduation, Ian worked with Peter Lehmann at Saltrams from 1970–72. In 1973, he moved to the Hunter Valley as chief winemaker at Tullochs, as well as coordinating winemaking at Ryecroft in McLaren Vale. During the 1980s, Ian acted as a successful winemaker and wine consultant for several Hunter wineries. This provided him with an insight and knowledge that was well used in the formation of Scarborough Wine Company. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ian and Merralea Scarborough also devised and operated a successful contract equipment service to the Australian and North American Wine Industry.
Merralea Scarborough - Sales and Administration
Merralea Scarborough, originally from South Australia, moved to the Hunter Valley with her husband Ian. In the mid-1980s Merralea worked in the hospitality industry before being instrumental in the set-up and operation of Scarborough’s contract equipment business. Acting as its manager, this business provided her with a practical and resourceful insight into the international wine market. Together, Merralea and Ian laid the groundwork for Scarborough Wine Co., and her continued vision and commitment to building a strong brand has contributed to its success.
Jerome Scarborough - Winemaker
Jerome Scarborough, Ian and Merralea’s son, graduated from University of Adelaide, Roseworthy Campus in 1994 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Viticulture). On graduation, Jerome initially worked in various roles. From 1996–2000, he was Lindemans Hunter Vineyard Manager, before joining Scarborough Wine Co. as General Manager. In 2005, Jerome assumed the winemaking role under Ian’s guidance.
Sally Scarborough - Sales and Marketing
Sally Scarborough, Ian and Merralea’s daughter, is responsible for all aspects of sales – from the Cellar door to the top end restaurants and retailers of Australia. Originally from a hospitality background, Sally gained an insight into the wine industry while working in the Napa Valley, California. She moved back to Melbourne in 2000 to oversee the Victorian sales for Scarborough. In 2003, Sally returned to Sydney to coordinate the National Sales for Scarborough Wine Company.
Elizabeth Riley - Viticulturalist
Elizabeth Riley, who is married to Jerome Scarborough, graduated from University of Adelaide, Roseworthy Campus in 1992 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Viticulture). Currently, Elizabeth is a self-employed viticulturalist offering vineyard management advice to many companies, including Scarborough. Elizabeth and Jerome have two young children, Callum and Hannah. Their proud grandparents, Ian and Merralea, are excited by the prospect that a third generation of Scarboroughs may eventually join the family business.
